Introduction
When I became born again, I had to rebuild my identity. All my life as an atheist, I had believed in a lie. I was insecure, didn’t love myself, and certainly didn’t believe anyone loved me. Through reading Bible verses about who we are in Christ, I started to see and believe who I truly am.
As Christians, it is important to know our position in Christ. So-called who I am in Christ Bible verses help us see ourselves how God sees us (now how others see us or even how we see ourselves). What is our identity in Christ?
As Christians-children of God-our identity comes from God (is from God). Let’s look at what identity actually means.
Identity:
- Meaning: the fact of being who or what a person or thing is. Oxford Dictionary.
- Origin: Idem (Latin), meaning ‘same.’
- This changed to Identitad in late Latin and later on to Identity in French.
- Identity in French, where the English word identity comes from, meaning: quality of being identical.
You may wonder why I spent time digging into this word identity…
Well, as children of God, our identity is in and from God:
- Idem: same as God.
- Identity (French): quality of being identical to God.
God created us in His image, not in any other image. We are like Him.
In this modern age, with much pressure and influence from social media and friends, we need to continue to remind ourselves who we are in Christ. Whether we have been born in a Christian home or gave our life to Christ later on. Who am I in Christ Jesus Bible verses help us remember our true identity.

Who are we in Christ?
When I became a Christian at 25, my whole world changed. Before that, as an atheist, I didn’t believe in God, and I didn’t think about my purpose or who I really was. But once I gave my life to Jesus, I started reading Bible verses about who we are in Christ, and everything became clearer.
It changed my life. And I know it can change yours for the better too!
In Christ, we get a new identity. It’s like stepping out of an old, empty life into something brand new and full of hope. The Bible tells us we need to let go of our old ways and embrace the new person God has made us to be.
This change doesn’t happen overnight, but as we spend time in God’s Word, we see ourselves the way He sees us. Drinking in as many who I am in Christ verses as we can will help build up our understanding of our position in Christ. And only then we can live based on it.
