The type of words we speak is determined by our heart (Matthew 12:34; Matthew 15:17-19). Proverbs 18 verse 21 even confirms, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” (NKJV)

As Christians, it is important not to mix the truth of the Bible with new age, related activities, and other occult practices. We shouldn’t allow fear of the occult to stop us from embracing and affirming God’s Word over our lives. There is power in daily biblical declarations because God adds power to it, not because of us.

Purpose and Focus: Christian affirmative prayers focus on aligning with God’s will and trusting in His promises. New Age affirmative prayers are focused on personal empowerment and achieving specific desires through mental affirmation.
If you want to start and are not sure whether you are engaging in the right way of affirmative prayers (the Christian way), then watch out for certain phrases that are part of new age and other occult beliefs. Phrases include: New Thought (with capitals), scientific prayer, spiritual mind treatment, spiritual treatment, affirmative prayer treatment, universal law of attraction, infinite law of mind, and religious science. Also, people such as Dr. Ernest Holmes (The Science of Mind), Joseph Murphy, Thubten Chodron, and Bhagavad Gita.
References such as higher power, divine mind, subconscious mind, positive energy, divine force, life force, creative visualization, and creative force are usually not biblical. Even though these terms in themselves aren’t wrong (for example: God is a higher power), these are the types of references usually used in new age and occultism.
Base your prayers on God’s Word and rely on the prompting of the Spirit of God to direct you—this will keep your affirmative prayers biblical.
